Kutani ware has been made in Ishikawa Prefecture since 1655 and is known for its vivid overglaze enamels, applied by hand and fired on to the glaze. The fine linework and layered colour on this mug are classic Kutani, so it sits just as happily on a display shelf as it does beside the kettle.
