Kutani Ware - Mansaku Vase
A Kutani bud vase painted with Japanese beautyberry
Murasakishikibu, the Japanese beautyberry, is an autumn favourite in Japan, named after Lady Murasaki, author of The Tale of Genji. On this Kutani ware bud vase its clusters of berries trail across a soft white crackle-textured body, crossed by an indigo lattice band that is echoed around the narrow square neck.
The flat, wave-edged shape is made for a single stem. At 15.5cm wide, 12cm tall and just 5cm deep, it sits easily on a narrow shelf, windowsill or entry table, and works just as well as a decorative piece on its own.
Dimensions: 15.5cm W x 12cm H x 5cm D. Material: porcelain.
Kutani ware has been made in Ishikawa prefecture since the 1650s and is known for its rich overglaze enamels in red, green, yellow, purple and navy blue. This vase comes from Kutaniyaki Toujudou in Nomi, Ishikawa, one of the region's established Kutani makers.
Arrives in a presentation box, ready to give. Made in Japan.
As each piece is lovingly handcrafted, subtle variations in size, glaze, colour, and texture may occur, adding to the unique character and charm of the artisan-made product.
